Community Hub

With great pleasure we were lucky enough to be awarded the project of refurbing a local community hub.  We completed a full refurbishment project within our local area. Prior to commencing the project, we engaged with the client and local residents at community meetings which were held to gather their input and preferences.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

We were delighted to be awarded the refurbishment of a local community hub, a project aimed at revitalising an important space within the neighbourhood. The objective was to modernise the building while preserving its role as a welcoming environment for local residents and community groups.

Before commencing works, we engaged closely with the client and members of the local community through a series of meetings to gather feedback on how the space could better serve their needs. This collaborative approach helped shape the final design and ensured the refurbishment reflected the priorities of those who use the hub most.

The project involved a comprehensive internal refurbishment, essential structural and cosmetic repairs, and external landscaping improvements. The building was stripped back to its core, allowing us to reconfigure the internal layout to maximise functionality and improve space utilisation. The completed works have transformed the hub into a modern, flexible space capable of supporting a wide range of community activities.

WHAT WAS THE CHALLENGE?

One of the primary challenges of the project was working within an existing structure that required significant repairs while also accommodating a redesigned internal layout. Careful planning was necessary to ensure that the refurbishment addressed underlying issues without compromising the integrity of the building.

Another challenge involved balancing the needs and expectations of various community stakeholders. As the hub serves multiple groups, it was important to ensure that the redesigned space could support diverse activities while remaining accessible and practical for all users.

Additionally, coordinating the refurbishment works alongside landscaping improvements required careful scheduling to minimise disruption and ensure that all elements of the project were delivered efficiently.

Sustainability Commitment

At Aztec Construction Midlands, sustainability is at the heart of how we build. We recognise our responsibility to protect the environment and contribute to a more sustainable future for the construction industry.

By combining innovation, expertise, and environmental responsibility, we ensure that every project contributes not only to our clients’ success — but also to a more sustainable future for all.

Challenges

To address these challenges, we adopted a collaborative and methodical approach throughout the project. Early engagement with the client and local residents allowed us to clearly understand the community’s priorities and incorporate these into the design and planning stages.

By stripping the building back to its core structure, we were able to fully assess the condition of the property and implement the necessary repairs before proceeding with the new layout. This approach ensured the long-term durability and safety of the building.

We also reconfigured the internal layout to optimise space utilisation, creating a more functional and flexible environment that can accommodate a variety of community uses. The addition of external landscaping further enhanced the accessibility and visual appeal of the hub.
